On February 1, 1999, EMC Corporation announced formation of the FibreAlliance. The goal of this innovative industry consortium is to develop and implement standard methods for managing heterogeneous Fibre Channel-based networks of storage systems, connectivity equipment and computer servers, which are also known as storage area networks, or SANs. Until now, standards for managing SANs, a critical requirement for enabling customers to easily deploy and effectively use SANs, have not existed. On behalf of the member companies, EMC submitted the engineering MIB resulting from the work of the FibreAlliance, to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This submission signifies a request for the IETF to consider the MIB as the basis of SAN management standards. More information about the MIB submitted to IETF. MIB 4.0 New!
